Since I've extensively covered everything we ate and drank in Singapore, now it's time for some of the other stuff we did. Yes, surprisingly we had time outside of all that eating and drinking to see some things too...
Our Home Base
Hotel Jen Tanglin
Since this was our first destination of the trip and my mom had just flown in, we decided to make sure we were very comfortable for our six nights. Hotel Jen Tanglin is a Shangri-La hotel that is posh and extremely comfortable. It’s situated a short ten minute walk from the Orchard Road shopping district, but don’t worry there’s also a complimentary shuttle bus every hour to bring you to the endless shopping mecca. Jen Tanglin features a fancy gym, a pool and several restaurants. Plus they even provided free umbrellas since it was a tad rainy in the beginning. Overall, our twin room fit the bill (around $150 USD per night) and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay.Singapore Sights
A Day in Sentosa
We found discounted tickets for the Singapore Cable Car on Klook, a mobile app for activities, and made our way to Sentosa. The highlight of Sentosa was the bucket of beer at the Shangri-La but we did also enjoy a few of the trails. The trails are well maintained and sort of feel like you're in a jungle. The main part of Sentosa is certainly more of a tourist trap with amusement parks and various activities. Though it was a fun day trip.Mount Faber
Since the cable car was free with our pass from Klook, we decided to take the cable car back to Mt. Faber. There we enjoyed some of the nature walk, which was more of a high walkway in the forest.Singapore Botanic Garden
Yet another wonderfully maintained garden like Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden. It was also a great place for a run or two since it was very close to our hotel. It’s free except we decided to pay the small fee to get into the Orchid Garden. It’s inexpensive and worth it to see the magnificent orchids.
Gardens by the Bay
This is where you can view the neat tree-like structures that make you feel like you’re in Avatar. We went during the day and at night to experience the light show. While I didn’t find the show to be that cool, I certainly appreciated the light aspect of it.

Chinatown
We walked around Chinatown for a bit and looked around some of the stalls. It was really more for a change of scenery. There wasn’t anything special we did or saw here, except get some more juice of course.
Little India
We came for the Indian food and left a tad disappointed. It was crowded, similar to the real India, but in a way that led it to not be as enjoyable as expected.MacRitchie Trail
We came here thinking we were going to make it to the TreeTop walk. But naturally we came on a Monday and that portion was closed. At least we got to enjoy some nature, monkeys, and lizards on our way.
The Clydesview
What would a trip to Singapore be without visiting my childhood home? My mom and I walked our way down memory lane, Jervois Lane to be exact, and visited the place we lived for two years when I was younger. I barely remembered it, only the pool really. And no one seemed to think it was odd we were sitting in the pool chairs.

And there you have it! Our six days in Singapore had come to an end. They were packed with a lot of walk and public transit. Speaking of transit, Singapore has excellent transit. We decided to get Singapore Tourist Pass (S$20 for 3 days) and quickly realized it was a waste and we should’ve just loaded money onto a regular card. Aside from that, transportation was so easy and affordable. Anywho, it’s time for a new destination and up next is Hanoi, Vietnam.
