  • Highlights of India

India was packed not only with people but also with activities. We spent our first day at port by exploring Chennai in rickshaws that crowded the streets everywhere we went. Beware - the drivers each have commission deals with local shops and restaurants so they will try to bring you to those spots unless you have a particular destination in mind. Chennai was a neat city, but I didn't explore it much because I had signed up for a big field program that took us to many exciting destinations across India. As a heads up, most places didn't allow pictures inside but I did my best to capture everything, when permitted.

Here is the rundown of what we did after flying into Delhi:

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (New Delhi, India) and Birla Hindu Temple (Delhi, India)

After a full day in Delhi, the next morning we got on the Shatabdi Express to travel to Agra. We arrived at the station and walked to our bus. Sadly, there were a lot of beggars all over India but it was extremely prevalent at this station.

Agra was where the exciting part of the trip began...

Taj Mahal (Agra, India) What an amazing destination. Once we arrived we were split up by gender in order to get through the security line. We walked through the gates and were stunned...

    Agra Fort (Agra, India)

    Fatehpur Sikri (Agra, Delhi)

We stayed overnight in Delhi and then had a morning flight to our next destination, Varanasi.

    Sarnath (Varanasi, India)

River Ganges (Varanasi, India) My personal favorite part of the whole trip. We arrived before the sun rose and got in our boats to go up and down the river. There were a few cremations taking place at the banks of the river as the sun rose. The river and all of the people were the most unforgettable part of our trip.

We flew back into Chennai where I had one more day to visit the Balagurukulam Orphanage.

India was a place like no other. It offered some beautiful architecture and a lot of action. Somehow I've managed to forget to mention the food...well, it was amazing.
