  • Kicking Off the Enrichment Voyage

Semester at Sea used to do this cool thing called Enrichment Voyages where you were on the ship for less than a month. With the amazing SAS experience under my belt, I knew I wanted to get back on the ship. So, the day after graduating from Columbia I found myself with Christie, Maddie and Rachel heading to London.
We didn't stay long in London, but don't worry I end up heading back there later. Instead, we bought bus tickets and drove about five hours to Dover, where the MV Explorer was waiting for us to board the next day.

But first, why not see what Dover had to offer?

During our short stint in Dover we stayed at the County Hotel, which was nothing fancy but did the job. We ate at several restaurants including il Rustico with delicious pizza, a small fresh doughnut cart, and The Curry Garden for some decent Indian food.

With little time before departure, we decided to take a look at Dover Castle.

It was a beautiful castle and you could see the White Cliffs of Dover along with the wonderful MV Explorer waiting for us. The Cliffs were a short drive from the Castle and a must see when in the area.

But we were here for one reason, to board the MV. After checking in and getting our ship ID's, Maddie, Christie and I headed to our room. We had an inside room, great for sleeping, and a bed for each of us. It was so great being back on the ship again. I saw some of the old crew like Vijay, and even had the pleasure of seeing Kristin, Scott and Sarah who all were on the Fall 2011 SAS trip with me. I quickly learned that being on the ship as an 'adult' was totally different. For one, I had access to the Glazier Lounge, an area only for professors and staff during the SAS voyages. This meant that as we departed Dover we sat in the Glazier Lounge and enjoyed the cocktail of the day, which was fittingly called a Bon Voyage.
