  • Pura Vida and Roatan

Our second to last stop on the whirlwind adventure that was Semester at Sea took us to Costa Rica. I kicked it off with my friend Anna on one of the ship excursions for zip-lining, during which we learned about the phrase 'Pura Vida'. We were told it can be used in response to pretty much any question, which doesn't seem entirely helpful in a response. Anyway, we got to the adventure park and got our harnesses set up. We went on a total of eight lines and, as you can see, it was beautiful.

After a quick ship lunch, Kelly, Caitlin and I ask the security guard where to get a taxi. Turns out his cousin was a taxi driver (surprise, suprise), so we piled in and headed to Playa Hermosa with a grocery store stop on the way. Our destination was a resort with a bunch of villas that has essentially been taken over by SAS groups. We enjoyed the beach for a while before getting ready for a night out filled with a lot of burritos in Jaco.

The next morning Anna, Meg, and I decided we wanted to go ATVing. We booked it and got a bunch of others to tag along. This was certainly the highlight of Costa Rica because we journeyed to waterfalls, met locals who showed us where to cliff jump, met some puppies and had a ton of fun. Unfortunately, this was our last activity in Costa Rica, aside from the uneventful van ride back to the ship.

Once back on the ship we needed to get to our final stop, Honduras. Luckily, that meant going through the Panama Canal! I have no pictures to document the experience, but it really was fun to see the ship going up and down in the locks.

Honduras was spent in a similar manner to Costa Rica, but a lot more beach time. We stayed at the Infinity Bay Resort with what seemed like the entire ship. The resort was right on the beach and we spent the majority of our time there.  We spent the night at the bar at the pool and a woman there had the most adorable small monkey. But similar to the Panama Canal, I have no pictures.

The last couple of hours were spent right on the dock at the bar outside of the ship. It was the perfect culmination of the most wonderful Semester at Sea.
